How to Easily Remove Pet Stains From Your Carpet

We love our furry friends, but accidents happen! Just how we have our own mishaps around the house, our pets can have their share of messes, too. Luckily, there are solutions and habits we can put into practice when these accidents happen on carpet. From vomit, urine, and feces, there are dangerous consequences we should consider if we let these stains go unattended. Here are six easy tips for thoroughly removing these pet stains from our floors.

6 Tips for Removing Pet Stains in Your Carpet

1. Blot, don’t rub

Try to get out as much as the mess as possible with blotting or scooping. If the stain is wet, apply pressure with a towel or cloth to get out as much liquid as you can. You never want to rub. This will spread even more bacteria around the carpet fibers. Don’t forget to use those gloves for protection!

2. Apply cleaning solution

Everyone has their own type of cleaning solution they prefer. There are many pet cleaning solutions you can easily find at the store, but if you’re out of options, you can always soak the stain in vinegar and warm water. Be sure to saturate the area with your solution, but not to where the area is left soggy. Remember, less is more!

4. Use pressure and baking soda

Depending on the stain, you might need a scrubber to remove any excess solids (if needed). Be sure to apply pressure on the area with a damp cloth and soak up the solution. After waiting for the solution and stain to soak, you want to apply baking soda over the area. This step will let your household know there’s a stain soaking and the baking soda will also soak up the excess bacteria and liquids remaining.

5. Rinse or vacuum

Whether if you’re dealing with urine or feces, you might want to wait a few hours or overnight for the baking soda to fully soak. Then, you can finally rinse or vacuum up the rest of the baking soda for an easy clean up.

6. Hire professional cleaners

When in doubt, hire professional cleaners to deal with the mess. These experts specialize in these types of messes and use industry-grade cleaning agents and machinery to thoroughly get deep in the mess. You can still clean up the stain yourself, but hiring professional carpet cleaners ensures an effective clean that you might not have gotten out yourself.
